Stimulating Solutions for Specific Problems

Technology

Musculoskeletal injuries, with associated damage to bones, joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons, are among the most common causes for patient presentation at the emergency room or for visits to the physician’s office.

Prolonged immobilization, either following an injury, surgery or simply reduced mobility, especially during later stages of life, lead to a decrease in muscle mass and strength, a process recognized as muscle atrophy.

Electrical therapies are effective as either primary or adjuvant therapy for strengthening muscles, relaxing muscle spasm and improving muscle tone, reducing edema and enhancing blood flow. Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES), the use of electrical currents to stimulate peripheral nerves and produce a sensory, motor or noxious response, has become a well-recognized tool in the healthcare armamentarium.

Electrical stimulation when applied early on, can prevent, or significantly reduce the development of immobilization-induced muscle atrophy. The MyoSpare incorporates patented technology developed by StimuHeal, to allow patients suffering from orthopedic or sport injuries, pre- or post surgery, with or without a cast, or simply when muscles are not sufficiently mobilized, to use the technology effectively. The device transmits low-level energy and is completely safe to use. Therapy can start immediately following surgical or medical interventions, or as an adjunct to self-administered exercise or professionally managed physical therapy. The MyoSpare provides continuous stimulation and exercise of the affected muscles, even when these are beneath a cast.

When used in conjunction with the DuraLect electrodes, the MyoSpare can effectively stimulate muscles for extended periods, without producing muscle fatigue. The lightweight, compact, battery-operated MyoSpare allows for easy and comfortable mobility and the simple controls permits it to be used without the need for regular monitoring or periodic adjustment by clinical personnel.
